Storm King, 1961

Storm King, 1961, stainless steel strip, motor, wooden housing, 360 x 60 x 60 cm.  A suspended metal blade is shaken to form harmonic patterns.  It begins slowly and the noise of the vibrating blade resembles an approaching storm.  Attached to the 'storm blade' are two smaller strips of steel curved to resemble sex organs.  These strips dance and 'sing' as the tempo of Storm King increases.

"I tie in my deepest sense of being with the image of energy also.  I personify it for myself with figures of motion like Storm King and Twister". – Len Lye
