Universe 1963-1976

Universe 1963 – 1976, spring steel band, electro-magnets in a wooden base, 220 x 250 x 28 cm.  Originally titled Loop, Lye renamed it Universe after a young boy said the sound it made reminded him of "the universe".

“It’s rigged to bounce up and down and sway every which way.  And when it bounces it hits a ball which makes it emit a very sonorous sound.  This loop is designed to be enlarged to about ten times and serve as a kind of gateway to some temple” – Len Lye
